While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick."

My husband, Pastor Bill Lawson, preached an awesome sermon on Sunday in which he outlined the purpose of Willow Community Church. Willow Community Church exists to draw people to the truth of Jesus Christ. We are here to be a doctor for the sick. He discussed what this means and some of the ways that we as a church plan to accomplish this purpose. It is really a cool thing to be a part of a church that knows why they exist and is trying to do something about it!
I do wonder though how many people who listened to the sermon on Sunday really put it to a personal application? What part do you plan on playing in helping the church accomplish this purpose? Did you sit back and thank God for our church, it's Pastors and their zeal for the unsaved? That is not enough! The Pastors cannot do it on their own. They need each and everyone who is a part of our church to dedicate themselves to the purpose of the church.
What does that mean? It is different for each person. God commands us to go into the world and let everyone know about Him. That is not an option. He also asks us to support our church with our tithes and offerings. That is not an option. There are also so many areas within the church where we can use our individual gifts. What is your passion? How can you help draw people to the truth of Jesus Christ through your service at our church?
I found myself examining my part in our church's purpose. God has really been convicting me about getting out into the world more so that I can be a part of lives that need to be drawn to Him. My world is pretty small. I live next to the church. I work at the church. Most of my friends are from the church. I'm not doing my part in this area! I am really praying that God helps me seek out opportunities to share my faith with others.
Bill's sermon was not just meant to inform you about what is going on at Willow Community Church. It was meant as a call to action. Are you doing more than just sitting in your pew on Sunday soaking it in? How does your daily life reflect the purpose of the church of which you are a part?
There are so many ways to get involved! There is always some kind of activity that you can invite people to (Game Night, Movie Night, Men's Breakfast, Small Groups and Women's Bible Study are just a few!). There are opportunities to help with the Children's ministry, upkeep of the property, Youth group, Men's and Women's ministries, Monday Prayer Group and tons of others! Ask God to show you what part you need to play in fulfilling the purpose of Willow Community Church! I have taken up my challenge, what is yours?
I have so much to learn!!!!
